Those were not my critiques of Shenvi, they were my description of Shenvi. Nothing wrong with being either self-taught or a homeschool dad. However, I think one’s self-promotion to expertise as the “guy who tells you such and such is incompatible with Christianity” is warrant for at least some degree of skepticism. I don’t think that skepticism adds up to an ad-hominem, though, since it’s not required for my core arguments to work.
